Group Project

Parker Pen (Classwork)

Evaluation

This was part of a class exercise we had to participate in during our second year. We were told we had to come up with a logo and advertising campaign which would entice more teenagers and students to buy the Parker Pen. The first thing we decided to do was to split our class up into two groups, one for research, and the other for design. I was part of the design team. We started by sketching out logo designs whilst the research group gathered information on things such as target audience, brand competition, current market and how Parker have presented themselves in the past. As Parker had such an explicit logo, we decided to stick with the basic design and make some amendments to make the logo appear more fresh and up to date. After we narrowed down our favourite designs, my group took the ideas presented and tried to improve upon them. We then came together with what we produced, and finally decided on what we believed was the best design. From here we looked at that research that was provided on ad campaigns from both Parker and similar brands. Same as the logo, we took the research and designed some campaigns we thought would have an impact on our target audience. We then shared our ideas and took some positive and negative feedback from others in the group. We gave our opinion on how the designs could be improved, and then similar ideas to use in campaigns. When we returned with our improved designs, we found that we could take elements from a few chosen ones, and combine them into what we thought was the strongest design. We took a strapline from one design, the font from another, and the idea and and composition from another. When we were finally happen with both our logo and campaigns, we presented them to our teacher and recieved good feedback. Overall I found this exercise enjoyable as I was able to see how everyone works differently, and interpret things in different ways. I have found that I like working in a group as I am able to receive feedback in which I can improve my work.
