For my Contextual Studies, I would like to look into the complexities of mass media and if it changes the way we think and act. The reason I have decided to base my essay on this question is because of personal interest. It was something I briefly touched on whilst studying Media at Sixth Form but I was unable to go into much detail. To be able to choose my own question is a bonus as I am able to choose something that will keep me motivated during the time given to complete the unit. Also the question I have chosen can me on both my current course and future career. In order to gather information and answers, I will have to research my chosen area in a lot more depth. My research can come from many areas including the internet, magazines, newspapers, libraries, books, flyers, blogs, social networking and documentaries. I am hoping to structure my essay by firstly acknowledging and answering the complexities of mass media, and then follow up with whether or not it changes the todays society act. My aim is to research both sides of the argument, and then based on my finding give my own opinion.
Below is the presentation I pitched to my tutor as to why I think my question would be good to answer.
After my question was accepted by my tutors, I decided to get started with my essay. I thought the best thing to do was to write 1000 words, then hand it too my tutor to make sure I was on the right path and where to go from there. His feedback came in very useful as I was given some more topics to focus my attention on.
Below is a reading list in which I was able to get information on my topics. I have included quotes from each of these books in order to reference my findings.
As I used quotes and gathered info. from each of these sources, I was forced to complete a bibliography to prove my findings and back them up. Below is my bibliography.
Finally, my essay.
